A Bible-Reading Habit. Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Lasting
change, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

IMAGINE what could happen if you were part of a community that heard God
speak the same thing to everyone, as one, everyday, year after year. Imagine if we
formed a new community habit of spending seven minutes a day growing together in God’s Word. Imagine all the ways our community would be made new!

TODAY, Crossroads Neighborhood Church will begin a two-year Bible reading plan
(we’re simply calling it: OPEN WORD) that will take us through the entire Bible
from cover to cover (once through the Old Testament, twice through the New Testament).
The average time it takes for the daily readings in the OPEN WORD plan is only seven minutes!
In two years, when we reach the end, we’ll go back to the beginning and start all over again.

CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION… There is no doubt inherent value in spending
time daily in God’s Word. But beyond that, the value of doing this together, is that
we’re doing it *together*, as one Body. Every community consists in large part as
an ongoing conversation–whether a family, a corporation, a military unit, or
indeed a church. In our fragmented world, what better way to see God cultivate a
growing and abiding unity in our body than by letting him begin the conversation
with us daily? The more people who get on board, the more everyone in our
community will have the same specific Scriptures fresh in mind day after day,
week after week, year after year, as common ground. Over time, this will enable us
to learn from and teach one another, as new questions and insights arise and as
we continue the conversation with one another that God has begun with us all. So
we are simply asking God to give us a daily conversation starter–because we know
he already has!
