Easter – Falling into Glory
Neighborhood News- April 19, 2019
Welcome into Holy Week. We have a lot of opportunities this week to help you enter into the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection, the story of our salvation. And it’s a beautiful thing to see our annual events forming into family traditions!
- 4/18/19: Welcome to the Table: Last night was our second annual Seder Meal Celebration. We feasted together with a traditional Passover meal, remembering the God who rescued his people out of slavery in Egypt, but we did do so “in” the upper room with the disciples, sharing the Last Supper with Jesus- the Passover meal during which Jesus announced a new Passover, a new salvation from slavery to sin and death!
- 4/19/19: Welcome to the Cross: Tonight (7:00 PM) is our third annual Good Friday Service at the Bremerton Performing Arts Center (see parking map below). Eight churches will gather together, around the Cross, as the one Church of Kitsap County, and behold the death of our Savior through the eyes of Isaiah (Isaiah 53).
- BONUS: The Church of Kitsap County has a history of partnering for Kingdom work: check out how The Kitsap Sun testified to our (Crossroads and Peninsula Bible Fellowship) united effort to welcome asylum seekers to their new home in Bremerton decades ago, and the legacy of hard work and service they’ve left: click here).
- 4/21/19: Welcome to the Empty Tomb: Sunday Morning (9:30 AM)before the service, we will gather for an Easter Fellowship Brunch in Johnson Hall. Then we will gather in the sanctuary to celebrate the most important Day, the most important event, in human history–the Day death lost its sting and life found its salvation!

Isaiah 53 – House Inspection
Neighborhood News- April 11, 2019
This past weekend was our annual Crossroads Women’s Retreat! The retreat was held at beautiful Camp Indianola overlooking the Puget Sound. There were 36 women who got away together to experience rest and recovery in the presence of Jesus, and I have already heard of many who were in agreement: “This retreat was just what I needed.”
The theme for this year’s retreat was Recover, based on Matthew 11:28-30, which is an invitation for each of us to get away with Jesus and recover our lives. While the retreat leaders are undoubtedly gifted women and leaders within our church, and while the retreat space was undoubtedly beautiful and calm as it overlooked the Puget Sound, the retreat was meaningful and powerful most of all because Jesus showed up. He showed up in a real way and spoke and ministered to those who had responded to his invitation to come to him and rest.
Whether you went on the women’s retreat or not, God invites us into a weekly rhythm of rest that he calls Sabbath. In the creation story in Genesis 1, the first full day that humans have after God creates them is the Sabbath. They rest first, and work second. And the seventh day is only day in Genesis 1 that never ends — Sabbath is the day that is meant to overflow into every other day of the week. Rest is meant to shape our work, not the other way around.
And God invites us into a daily rhythm of practicing his presence. Many of us read scripture or devotionals as a daily practice, and that is a good thing. But Jesus doesn’t need a devotional to speak to you. He wants to speak directly to you too, by His Spirit. And Jesus wants to give you rest in his presence every day, to encourage and support and care for you.
So, I would encourage you to take a moment this week stop from the busyness and lists and to-dos that so much of life involves, and to hear Jesus’ invitation to you: “Are you tired? Are you worn out? Are you burned out on religion? Come to me Get away with me and you will recover your life. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me, and you will learn to live freely and lightly.”
Best,
Sam Donica

2 Corinthians 13:5 The Forgotten Sin Jesus Died For (Cross-Examine Series Pt. 1)
Neighborhood News – April 4, 2019
Greetings,
A few weeks ago your pastoral staff headed south to attend our Field Forum in Portland Oregon. Field Forum is an annual gathering of all licensed workers from Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Northern Idaho within the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The Forums rotate between a business focus and growth focus. This year the focus was growth and
We had rich “Portland-style” times of worship as a team of our own local worship leaders led us multiple times throughout the three days. Sundar Krishnan was our guest speaker and he spoke four times on the Power to cultivate the mind of Christ. The messages were challenging, affirming, thought-provoking and refreshing. We also had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions geared towards expanding our tool kit, engaging the next generation and church leadership.
In addition to the excellent content, we also had space to reconnect with friends and make new ones. It was a gift to hear and share the joys and struggles of others in our area who love the church and are committed to investing in her. I was especially grateful for the opportunity to connect in new ways with our team.
Thank you for giving your team the space to attend. We are grateful both for the privilege to serve in this field and for the opportunity to serve here in this community called Crossroads Neighborhood Church. If you are interested in hearing me, feel free to ask us!
Blessings,
Pastor Eric (on behalf of the others)
