July 10 -19th Crossroads will be sending a team back to the country of Ecuador to serve at the Ninawachi Missions Training School in the town of Huaticocha. Although you may know those details are you familiar with our investment in the country of Ecuador?
The Christian and Missionary Alliance, of which Crossroads is a part, began as a mission sending agency in 1890. At its heart was a deep passion to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the world. In 1897 we sent our first missionaries to the country of Ecuador to open small churches along the coast. Their going was funded by members in the US sacrificially giving of their money and jewelry.
In 1922, one of our missionaries moved to Quito, the capital, to find a suitable property to construct the first evangelical church. After much resistance, someone was willing to sell land to “the evangelical devils”. Opposition continued as the archbishop of Quito threatened to excommunicate any who helped, angry mobs would daily tear down the walls completed that day and costs were increased weekly. But they persisted and the first church was planted. It remained as the only Alliance church in the city until 1970 when God began to move. Today there are over 30 Alliance churches across Quito.
Over the years the good news has spread around the country. In 2002 God led a couple from Gig Harbor to leave their family business and move to Ecuador. Little did they know all that God would call them to begin a mission training school in the Amazon basin focused on reaching the forgotten and impoverished jungle communities.
Crossroads has invested by sending people and finances to assist in the work God is doing there. I would like to invite you to partner with us this summer through prayer and giving. For the next several weeks there will be a table near the connection point where you can pick up a prayer card and make a commitment to give financially to enable our team to go and serve. Please join us in continuing to proclaim that the news is good around the world!
