The purpose of our groups are to grow Christ centered relationships in everyday life. We believe one of the best ways to do this is in the context of a small group of people committed to gathering regularly to share honestly of their journey with Jesus. Whether you have been on the journey for years or you are still exploring the idea… we invite you to join in. This page is the place to learn what a group looks like, how to join and find the questions for the groups. We entitled our questions “Continuing the Conversation” because God has initiated a conversation with each of us. Our hope is to facilitate a safe space for you to continue that dialogue with Him.
Neighborhood Group Basics
When do they meet? Weekly or bi-weekly
Where do they meet? We focus on connecting people geographically… in their neighborhood
What do they study? Each week questions are crafted and posted originating from the Scripture used in the previous Sundays message. We have three main areas:
Our World: we gather in homes or the church, often around meals or snacks, check in with each other, and then enter into prayer to transition to our time together in the Word.
Growing Deep In God’s Word: we begin by entering into the sermon text, and possibly related texts, and discuss what God is revealing about Himself and speaking to us through His Word.
We gather in our Neighborhood Groups to grow deeper together in Christ through his Word. Jesus said there’s something special about even the smallest gathering of people in His Name, such that He promised to be uniquely present to us when we do so (Mt. 18:20). This is because God is on a mission to restore humankind back to its original form, as image-bearers of the Triune God who is Love. There is no context more appropriate for God to cultivate our capacity for love than in small communities committed to speaking openly and honestly about the ways in which God’s Word touches our lives and our relationships most deeply.
Branching Out In Our Witness: we then discuss what it might look like to flesh out His Word in our lives and relationships in the days ahead as we engage with believers and unbelievers alike.
Neighborhood Group gatherings provide the opportunity to help us become intentional about scattering by orienting our faith beyond the walls of the church. Sundays are kind of like weekly “conversation starters,” where we regularly regroup to be reminded who God is and who we are in light of the Gospel (since we regularly forget!) communing in worship and sitting under His Word, so we can return to ordinary life and continue the conversation with the people who inhabit our Monday-through-Saturday ordinary world. That world is the biggest, and often most neglected, mission field in America! So Neighborhood Groups are an intentional first step in that direction, where we process together how God’s Word is speaking to us in particular ways and what it might look like to flesh out His Word in our everyday lives and relationships in the days that follow, branching out as witnesses for Christ in the world as we daily encounter it.
What is the make up of a group? Groups can be comprised of just singles, couples, families or all of the above. Some are geared solely for just men or women.
